Every morning must begin with a morning primer to prepare you for a day on the path, or for a controlled day of relaxation to ensure we do not self-sabotage ourselves via the pursuit of pleasure or its overconsumption.
The morning routine primer is beneficial in itself but also serves as a powerful mental “primer” to prime you for walking down the path. It’s a declaration to your Mind, Body, and Spirit that today you are progressing down the path.
When you first open your eyes, you have been deprived of water for as long as you slept. This must be remedied within the first hour of waking, after breathwork.
There is another crucial chemical you are deprived of while in deep sleep that is more important than water–oxygen.
Oxygen
While you are sleeping your breathing is slower and more shallow. This is because the body is at rest and doesn’t need a lot of oxygen and because the autonomic nervous system(ANS) is managing breathing for you, specifically the medulla oblongata and the pon part of the brain. If you have sleep apnea, you are not getting enough oxygen from automatic shallow breathing, which already gives you less oxygen.
Keep in mind your brain uses around 20% of the oxygen your body takes in. Your brain is capable of operating with low oxygen, like while you’re sleeping, but we don’t want to exist at a baseline of reduced maximal performance.
Shallow breathing increases the body’s carbon dioxide, which increases fatigue and reduces endurance. For the mind, high carbon dioxide and low oxygen can cause brain fog, a decrease in focus, and a decrease in mental endurance; the ability to stay on task, uninterrupted, for long durations.
We are the opposite of plants. We thrive with high oxygen and suffer with high carbon dioxide. Surrounding yourself with plants(life) is remarkable.
The Benefits of High Oxygen
More oxygen helps Body, Mind, and Spirit(BMS)–each pillar of mankind.
Oxygen is a free-for-everyone performance-enhancing chemical that when you take more of it, you reap excellent benefits. Be greedy with oxygen.
Some of the mental benefits of increased oxygen include:
- Enhanced mental clarity
- Removal of thought chatter, the monkey mind
- Increased cognitive endurance, meaning duration increases working in the mind domain
- Increased attention
- Increased alertness
- Some of the physical benefits of increased oxygen include:
- Reduced fatigue
- Enhanced endurance
- Increased capacity for oxygen use for faster recovery and endurance
- Boost in strength and stamina
Morning oxygenation
Oxygenate yourself when your eyes first open. Use the bathroom if you have to, say a prayer, but get to oxygenating your body, mind, and spirit as close as you can after your eyes first open even before you drink water.
The Wim Hoff Method is good for this because Hoff teaches the method for free, it’s proven clinically, and you can learn it quickly, below, and carry it for the rest of your life.
We appreciate the automatic nervous system(ANS) and our medulla oblongata for managing respiration while we slept, but now we must take that responsibility back.
After oxygenation
After you oxygenate yourself, get out of bed immediately. Start your morning primer, do hygiene tasks, and begin making progress down your paths today.
