How to embrace the Unique Calling of Your Soul

The City of Ambitions | 1910 | Alfred Stieglitz | 1864–1946 | AIC

“Ambition, I have come to believe, is the most primal and sacred fundament of our being. To feel ambition and to act upon it is to embrace the unique calling of our souls. Not to act upon that ambition is to turn our backs on ourselves and on the reason for our existence.”

Steven Pressfield | Turning Pro

Kindle | Paperback

Ambition is not a personality trait, as many falsely believe.

Ambition is a clue provided by the muse to inform you that you are on the right path.

If you do not feel ambition, it is not because you are not an ambitious person–you do not feel ambition because you have not found a path that resonates with your Spirit, across Body, Mind, and Spirit(BMS).

To wear gloves, you must find gloves that fit your hand properly. To walk the path to mastery, you must find the path that fits your spirit properly.

If you do not have a path in each domain, it is crucial to test as many pursuits as you can while listening for ambition. The objective of the young person, or any person is to find a path to mastery in each domain.

The Andreia Philosophy rights of passage is finding your first paths across Body, Mind, and Spirit(BMS). Understand that these paths will change, like the legendary samurai Miyamoto Musashi, who after his 63rd duel, began pursuing mastery in painting, calligraphy, philosophy, sculpture, and more.

Ambition will call you when you are on the right path. The earlier you can do this the better, as you will have more time to pursue mastery, understanding that it is the journey, not the destination, that is the reward, which always comes in the form of fulfillment.

The youth should aim to find a pursuit of mastery that speaks ambition to them in Body, Mind, and Spirit(BMS). So the high-school student finds a physical pursuit, a mental pursuit, and a spiritual pursuit that they may pursue for their entire life. It’s okay if these pursuits change according to the calls of ambition–it is not okay to change your pursuits because they are hard.

The earlier you can find your masteries, the better. But understand when you are young you know little of yourself. The more you learn about yourself by doing difficult things, the faster you will find your paths to mastery.

The point of having multiple pursuits to mastery in the same domain, and different domains, is so you can pivot when you hit the wall. If you are stuck in a mental pursuit, you may train the body which may tear down the wall in the mental domain.

Proper posture is a mastery of the body domain that all wanderers must pursue. Improved posture will help all pursuits in the domain of body.

Embracing the unique calling of your soul

At all ages it is crucial to test new paths to mastery. Testing new paths to mastery is where you will find the whispers of the muse, or the scent of ambition that smells like fresh-baked chocolate chip cookies. It’s irresistible and distinguished.

You will know it when you find it.

Ambition is irresistible to those with healthy spirits. A sick spirit may reject the tantalizing pull of ambition, but not a healthy spirit.

Embrace the calling of your spirit(the soul) by listening to YOUR Muse. Ambition is the whisper, the ear kiss, of the Muse begging you to continue because she wants to see you succeed and find fulfillment.

We all have guardian muses of mastery waiting for us on the path. She wants to be found. When you approach her she will make herself known.

The Muse whispers, and you decide if you will listen. Those who pursue mastery across body, mind, and spirit are better listeners than those who do not.

You must listen to your Muse and not the world’s words to stay loyal to The Way, YOUR Way.
